NOTICE: Important change in Douglas County Code Regarding Occupancy Tax

Effective May 1, 2003, Occupancy tax must be collected and remitted to Douglas County for any number of units/rooms rented in Douglas County.  There was an exemption from occupancy tax collection on rental of 3 or less rooms or units but Douglas County Code was amended to remove this exemption.  The change could affect rented homes by owner or small bed and breakfast establishments.  If you think this change could affect your rentals or have questions, contact Kathy Lewis, Internal Auditor at 775-782-9057.  Please be aware, Douglas County can charge penalties and interest on any occupancy tax found not remitted to the County in a timely manner.
