Deadline to Register to Vote
The deadline to register to vote is the third Tuesday  preceding any primary or general election. The last ten days of registration (the fifth Sunday through the third Tuesday proceeding the election) you can only register to vote by appearing in person at  the Clerk's Office at 1616 8th Street, Minden or  the Clerk's Office at the Tahoe Administration Building.

 


The Deadline for Party Affiliation
is 30 Days Before an Election

You must be registered under your desired party affiliation no later  than the fifth Saturday preceding the state/county primary election in order to vote for offices associated with your party affiliation in the state/county primary election.

Nevada is a closed primary state, (i.e., you can only vote for offices associated with your party affiliation, along with nonpartisan offices and ballot questions that are applicable to your precinct). Go to "Elected Officials in Douglas County, Nevada" to find out which partisan and nonpartisan offices are up for election in 2010.

Currently Nevada recognizes two major political parties for state/county primary elections:  If you register as a member of a major political party, you will only be eligible to vote for offices associated with your party, along with nonpartisan offices and questions that are applicable to your precinct, in state/county primary elections.  The major political parties are:

Sub bullet Minor Political Parties:
Currently Nevada recognizes two minor political parties for state/county primary elections:
Item Independent American
Item Libertarian
Item (You can also choose to be Non-Partisan and not be affiliated with either a major or minor political party)
If you register as a member of a minor political party or as a nonpartisan (no party affiliation), you will only be eligible to vote for nonpartisan offices and questions that are applicable to your precinct, (i.e., you can not vote for partisan offices, in state/county primary elections).

General elections are open. You can vote for all offices on your ballot, regardless of your party affiliation. You can also vote for questions that are applicable to your precinct.
